The honest difference

Overlay widgets don't make you compliant

In 2025 the US regulator fined the biggest overlay company $1M for false claims — and 800+ businesses using overlays were sued anyway. A button can't fix your code. We do it properly.

The "magic" overlay

  • Adds a widget that doesn't fix the real code
  • Blind users say it breaks their screen reader
  • No legal protection — lawsuits continue
  • Monthly fee forever for a fake fix

EAA Comply

  • A real scan of your code with axe-core (Deque's open-source engine) plus manual testing against WCAG
  • Clear report: every issue, the exact selector, and how to fix it
  • Your official accessibility statement, written
  • Optional monthly monitoring so it stays compliant

We don't patch your site with a script and call it done — we scan your actual HTML, CSS and JavaScript with axe-core, the same open-source engine built into browser DevTools, and hand your developer the exact rule and selector to fix. Nothing runs on your live visitors' browsers. That's also why roughly 4 in 10 businesses sued over web accessibility in 2025 already had an overlay widget installed when the claim was filed — the widget didn't stop the lawsuit, because the underlying markup never changed. What's actually at stake

This isn't a hypothetical fine. It's already happening.

The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025. National authorities are moving from warnings to real enforcement, and courts are starting to rule.

6 months

Carrefour France, June 2026

A French court ordered Carrefour to make its website and app fully accessible within six months, under daily penalties for delay — even though Carrefour already met 71% of the French accessibility standard. Partial compliance was ruled not enough.

Up to €1,000,000

Spain's penalty ceiling

Spain's infringement framework runs from €301 for minor cases up to €1,000,000 for the most serious ones, with the possibility of a multi-year suspension of activity attached to the worst cases.

Up to €900,000

Netherlands: fines or 10% of turnover

Dutch enforcement allows penalties up to €900,000 or 10% of annual turnover, whichever framework applies — and consumers can bring civil claims for accessibility failures on top of regulatory action.

And an overlay you may already have installed doesn't remove that exposure: the FTC fined the largest overlay vendor $1,000,000 in 2025 for falsely claiming its widget made sites compliant, and roughly 4 in 10 businesses sued over web accessibility still had one running.

The maths

What "doing nothing" actually costs, versus fixing it now

This isn't scare-mongering — these are figures reported by law firms and accessibility litigation trackers for typical small-business cases.

Cost of getting sued

Demand letter settlement (avg.)~$5,000
Out-of-court settlement (avg.)~$30,000
Legal defence fees on top$30,000–$175,000
Typical total exposure$45,000–$75,000+

Cost of proactive compliance

Full report + guided fixes€290 one-off
12 months of monitoring€19 × 12
Independent benchmark: proactive monitoring$3,500–$10,000 / yr
Your first-year cost with EAA Comply≈ €518 / year

Independent benchmark source: Accessible.org, ADA lawsuit settlement & proactive-compliance cost data

Run the numbers and a year of audits + monitoring costs roughly 1–2% of a single average settlement — before you even add defence fees or a class action, which averages around $400,000.

How exposed is your site right now?

Answer six quick questions. This is a rough self-assessment, not a substitute for a real audit — but it tells you which way the wind is blowing.

60-second accessibility risk check

Nothing is sent anywhere: this runs entirely in your browser.

1. Do you sell products or services to consumers anywhere in the EU?
2. Have you ever run an accessibility audit or scan on your site?
3. Do you currently use an overlay/widget (e.g. a floating accessibility icon)?
4. Can someone complete checkout using only a keyboard, no mouse?
5. Do you have a published accessibility statement?
6. Has a customer or partner ever mentioned accessibility problems on your site?

Who we are

A digital agency for search & compliance

EAA Comply is a specialist web accessibility service. We work in accessibility, web performance and regulatory compliance (WCAG 2.1/2.2, EN 301 549, GDPR and cookie law). We build and audit real websites, so we know what a fix actually takes.

We don't sell a widget and disappear. Our team audits your real HTML, CSS and JavaScript the way a browser and a screen reader see it, writes a fix plan your developer can follow, and stands behind the result. The same technical rigour we use to rank sites in Google is what we apply to make them usable for everyone — and defensible under the European Accessibility Act.

You work with one accountable partner across the whole job: audit, fixes guidance, accessibility statement, certificate and ongoing monitoring. No hand-offs, no black boxes.

Why teams trust us

  • Real code audits, not overlays. We test with axe-core plus manual screen-reader and keyboard passes.
  • Technical + legal fluency. Accessibility, GDPR and cookie rules handled together, with sources.
  • Deliverables you can act on. Fix plan, accessibility statement and a conformance certificate.
  • Fixed prices & a guarantee. We reach WCAG conformance or you don't pay.
  • White-label for agencies. We stay invisible behind your brand when you need us to.

What our audit and certificate mean

Our audit verifies that your website meets the technical standards required by the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882), the EN 301 549 standard and WCAG 2.1/2.2 level AA. The certificate we issue confirms that your site has been audited and meets those standards as at the audit date, and is a valid record of your due diligence towards customers and authorities. We are not a public supervisory body or a regulatory authority: our certificate is a private-brand technical accreditation. We are not liable for misuse of the platform, for a customer's failure to implement recommended fixes, or for infringements caused by third parties. For complex legal cases, consult a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction.

Questions

Frequently asked

If you sell to consumers in the EU through e-commerce, the European Accessibility Act applies since 28 June 2025. Micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 staff and under €2M turnover) offering services are exempt, but their customers and marketplaces increasingly demand accessibility anyway.

Enforcement is handled by national market-surveillance authorities. Regulators have begun with warnings and compliance requests rather than immediate fines — but complaints from consumers and competitors can trigger inspections, and non-compliant sites can be ordered to fix issues or face penalties under national law.

Overlays don't fix your underlying code, screen-reader users report they often make things worse, and businesses using them have still been sued. The largest overlay vendor was fined $1M by the US FTC in January 2025 for misleading claims. Real compliance requires fixing the actual issues, which is why we scan your real HTML, CSS and JavaScript with axe-core (Deque's open-source engine) instead of injecting a widget — that's what our report gives your developer.

The free scan is instant. A full online-shop audit (automated + manual screen-reader and keyboard testing of your purchase journey) is delivered in 5–7 working days, including your accessibility statement and prioritised fix plan.

Yes. The €149 report already includes a fix plan any developer can follow. With Guided fixes (€290) we go further and hand you the actual code changes for your platform (WooCommerce, Shopify, WordPress), then re-check the site and issue your certificate once they're applied.
